The Great American Road Trip

Is there anything more American than the great American road trip? Starting out in Charleston, this road trip guide will take you to some of the coolest sights to see on a road trip!

We love traveling, and we love being smart travelers even more. Charleston is in such a perfect location for day and weekend trips! Spend the day, or maybe even the night at these fun and family friendly trips! Don't worry- there is plenty of things for adults to do as well.

1. Savannah, Georgia- 2 Hours Away

Located a little more than 2 hours down Highway 17 is another beautiful and historic piece of the south. Whether you're a history buff, or just like learning about somewhere new, Savannah has tons of tours! From the basic history of the city to the civil war, Walking and Carriage tours are the best way to learn about the city. Up for a bit of ghostly fun? There are plenty of haunted tour options! Take a walk along the riverwalk and see some of the most beautiful sights Savannah has to offer. If you're looking for true southern food, you have to visit Narobia's Grits and Gravy for breakfast, brunch, and early lunch.

For the Kids: Try the Oatland Island Wildlife Center. Take a nature walk and see the animals of Georgia in their natural habitat! Not exactly your style? Check out the Savannah Children's Museum. There are different events daily!

For the Adults: Service Brewing Company. It's a truly local and Veteran owned brewery located downtown in an incredible space. It's a great way to end the day as well as support our service men and women, and first responders.

2. Atlanta, Georgia- 5 Hours Away

Atlanta, Georgia is located right around 5 hours west of Charleston. It's not as historic as its neighbor, Savannah, but there are plenty of things to do, see, and eat! Take a stroll around the Atlanta Beltline (not all of it- it's 22 miles long!), we'd recommend the Ponce City Market area. View the incredible Atlanta Botanical Gardens, and visit the birth home of Martin Luther King Jr.  Have some picky or indecisive eaters? Krog Street Market will take care of that! With tons of options in an indoor (air conditioned) market, everyone will find something.

For the Kids: Catch a Braves game. There's nothing that says family fun like a baseball game. For a sweet treat, we would recommend Sublime Donuts.

For the Adults: Sublime Donuts. They are that good. Want an alternative? Hope you don't have a fear of heights! Check out the Westin Peachtree Plaza for a 360-degree view that you cannot beat. Hungry for more? The Sun Dial restaurant is at the top, along with the Sun Dial revolving bar.

3. Asheville, North Carolina- 4.5 Hours Away

Located in our neighbor to the north (North Carolina), Asheville is a perfect daycation or weekend getaway. Asheville is perfect for outdoorsy and indoorsy people! Go zip lining, hiking, mountain biking, or rafting! Or hit the historic houses, see the Montford Park Players, go shopping, or even view a NASA facility. Hungry? Asheville is not shy on cuisine. You're only limited by what you feel like eating. Asheville has something for you, whether it's Italian, American, Chinese, Mexican... the list goes on and on!

For the Kids: Parents and kids will enjoy Lazoom Bus tours. Learn about the history of Asheville from an eccentric tour guide, and kid friendly comedy. (When you chose the kid comedy tour)

For the Adults: Asheville has been called "the Beer City". Sit back and relax on a Brews Cruise. Or, literally, sit back and relax at the incredible Grove Park Inn Spa.
