How to Make a Pumpkin Spice Latte

To Pumpkin Spice or not to Pumpkin Spice...that is the question. We at Escapada Living are giving you a step by step guide into making your very own Pumpkin Spice Latte at home!

Not only will you save some serious money, but you will get to reap in the complements of all your friends when your kitchen becomes their very own high end coffee shop.

What most pumpkin spice latte’s do not include are actual pumpkin puree, so what better way to really get into the fall spirit then to use the exact ingredient that this holiday season is based around?! Yes, the Pumpkin.

All you will need for equipment is:

  • Mixer or whisk
  • Saucepan
  • Spoon
  • Blender
  • Espresso or coffee maker

(Makes 2 drinks)

Your ingredients are:

  • 2 tablespoons pumpkin purée (omg yes!)
  • 1/2 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice, plus more to garnish (because, why not?)
  • Freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons vanilla extract (feel free to make this less than 2 if too ~artificial~ tasting)
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 to 2 shots espresso (about 1/4 cup), or 1/3 to 1/2 cup strong coffee
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream, whipped into firm peaks (for that #frothy look)

And begin!

  1. Heat the pumpkin and spices. Begin by heating the pumpkin puree, pumpkin pie spice, and black pepper in a small saucepan. You will want this over medium heat so that the consistency does not get too thin too fast. Stir constantly, until hot. This should take about 2 minutes.
  2. Stir in the sugar. Add the sugar and stir until the mixture looks like a thick syrup.
  3. Warm & Blend the milk. Whisk in the milk and vanilla and warm gently. Process the mixture with a blender until frothy.
  4. Mix the drinks! Make the espresso (or coffee) and split for 2 mugs. Add the frothed milk and pumpkin mixture. Top it off with the whipped cream and a sprinkle of pumpkin pie spice. (You can also use cinnamon or nutmeg!)
