Local Love: Interview With The Tiny Tassel

We love working with other local Charleston brands and entrepreneurs, and The Tiny Tassel is one of our favorites! The Tiny Tassel was a staple in our retail store in Mt. Pleasant and owner and designer, Mimi, even held many tassel making workshops there! Mimi's jewelry is the perfect finishing touch to any outfit and we were interested to learn a little more about The Tiny Tassel and the awesome #girlboss behind the brand! We interviewed Mimi about her style, inspiration, travel and favorite places in the Holy City!

Mimi in our Daphne Tunic Dress, The Tiny Tassel Barre tassel bracelets & Cooper tassel earrings

1. Tell us about a day in the life of you! What's your usual routine?

Wake up by 8 & walk Gizmo!

My favorite morning pit- stop has been picking up an Electric Mermaid bowl from Playa bowls, then head to work for the day at our shop Cannonborough Collective! My day can be filled with everything from making tons of tiny tassels to blowing up lots of balloons! After work, I head to Barre South for a good work out before heading home to cook a fun dinner! I try to stop working at 8 pm but that usually doesn’t happen, it can be hard balancing it all! Some nights I end the day with a face mask from Motherland Essentials and then get a good nights rest so that I can do it all over again!

2. We can't get enough of your tassel earrings - they're the perfect finishing touch for any outfit. Can you tell us a little more about how your business got started?

Thank you! My sister gave me a pair of hot pink tassels for my birthday & I started making tassel earrings for fun a little over three years ago! Before I knew it a couple months had passed and I’d created an Etsy page and began adding tassel bracelets & necklaces! After about a year of working in retail management & running my side hustle at full speed, I was so blessed to be able to take on The Tiny Tassel full time & the rest is history! I know this will sound cheesy but I’ve loved being able to wake up every day and do exactly what I’m meant to be doing right now!

3. Where do you find inspiration for your jewelry designs?

Charleston offers me so much inspiration every day! The Tiny Tassel is known for being colorful and happy so our cheery town lends so many fun ideas!

4. How would you describe your personal style?

Colorful, preppy & comfy!

5. Can you tell us how you styled the Daphne Dress?

This was the perfect dress for exploring Atlanta! I paired it with a couple of our Barre tassel bracelets for a fun arm party, Cooper lucite tassel earrings, comfy tennis mesh shoes from Tretorn & of course my classic L.L. Bean tote - adorned with pins from some of my favorite places! I loved the Daphne dress because it was an easy, no fuss look & not to mention super comfy to hang out in all day!

6. Let's say you have a friend visiting Charleston for one day, and you want to show her the highlights. Where would you take her?

First stop, breakfast at Blue Rose Cafe — second, we’d explore the Cannonborough/ Elliotborough neighborhood to stop at our shop Cannonborough Collective & all of our favorite local shops in the neighborhood. Stop for a sweet treat from Sugar Bakeshop then head to pineapple fountain (of course) for a few fun photos! After living here for almost nine years, I still love taking strolls around town and just getting lost in the beautiful neighborhoods downtown.

7. What place(s) are on your travel bucket list? Why?

Currently can’t wait to visit LA & Palm Beach! Can you tell I've still got summer on my mind? Would love to travel to Tokyo again soon to visit family and take them all tassels!! Paris is my number one on the list right now, can’t wait to visit one day & eat all the cheese!
