Local Love: Interview with Hart Hagerty

Tassels, Charleston, and fabulous boss babes... these are a few of our favorite things! Hart Hagerty is the designer behind one of our favorite pairs of tassel earrings, and she lives right here in our hometown. We sat down with her to chat about style, travel, and her favorite local spots.

Check out our interview with Hart here, and find her gorgeous earrings at the Escapada Living Signature Store or on her website. We promise you'll love them as much as we do!

1. Tell us about a day in the life of you! What's your usual routine?

A typical work day starts with a 10 minute meditation first thing in the morning. Then a workout at Pure Barre if I'm behaving myself. Next I bike or walk to my studio for 4-6 hours on Broad Street to get work done. I fill my afternoons up with meetings and social appointments. I love getting together, brainstorming and collaborating with fellow business owners and creatives at places like Harbinger, The Daily or Huriyali. My network of friends here infinitely inspire me. The day ends with a glass of red wine on my porch and a book in bed.

2. We can't get enough of your tassel earrings - they're the perfect finishing touch for any outfit. Can you tell us a little more about how your business got started?

While living in Shanghai from 2009-2014, I started my line of luxe, boho jackets. I came across the tassels at trim markets seeking buttons for my jackets, and fastened the tassels into earrings for myself. Fast forward to when I was living in NYC in 2015... I literally got dozens of compliments every time I wore them and knew I was onto something with simple, 'understated statement earrings.' I launched the line in August 2015 and haven't looked back since!

3. What place(s) are on your travel bucket list? Why?

I'm a travel nut. I've gone to 35 countries, mostly across Southeast Asia. I'd like to go to Fiji and other remote islands of French Polynesia and swim with whales and go surfing. I'm planning a trip to Morocco in the spring! I'm so fortunate that I get to travel for work and I can work from anywhere as long as I have my laptop!

4. You're originally from Charleston, and moved back here last year. How has this city inspired the designs of your earrings and jackets?

Charleston's architecture endlessly inspires me. The colors of buildings, window boxes, historic homes. The palette is positively lovely. I grew up South of Broad, have walked the neighborhood thousands of times. Yet there's always a new design detail that catches my eye and inspires me each day.

5. What's your go-to Pandora/Spotify station?

War on Drugs and The Rolling Stones! Otis Redding and Sam Cooke, too:)

6. How would you describe your personal style?

In a few words... Bohemian, quality classics, denim-lover, sexy, wannabe French girl.

7. Let's say you have a friend visiting Charleston for one day, and you want to show her the highlights. Where would you take her?

That is a tough one! I wrote a Charleston City Guide in attempt to share all of my highlights. But the first place I'd take her is probably my parent's house on Bedons Alley, which was built in 1770. We'd pour her a glass of wine, relax in the garden, show her my dad's art studio. Then I'd take her for fried chicken at Leon's, and with some live rock music and cheap beer at The Royal American!
